Wichita Mid-Continent Airport Parking Facilities November 2013 Update
Ruggles & Bohm is part of a team led by Carl Walker, Incorporated of Frisco, Texas and Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architects of Wichita on the design of a new parking structure and rental car facility at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. The project is associated with the new Air Capital Terminal III project, which is currently under construction after being designed and bid under a separate contract.
The parking project includes the construction of a new 4-level parking structure, rental car building, and reconfigured surface parking lots. Ruggles & Bohm provided services for site surveying and utility mapping; civil engineering; reconfiguration of existing surface parking; irrigation design; and water rights modification. We are currently providing construction inspection services throughout the project duration, with anticipated completion in early 2015.
November 2013 Update
After a long summer of utility relocations, fall brought pavement removal, changes to circulation patterns, drilling of foundation piers and earthwork, all in preparation for the new parking structure. Currently rising from the former short-term parking area are the first visible signs of the parking structure – first level concrete columns and footings. Temporary access to the remaining close-in parking is nearing completion and will open shortly for public access. Outside the terminal loop road, landscape and irrigation installation is nearing completion, one of the first project milestones to be completed. The landscape will feature native grasses, trees and shrubs, as well as limestone – all indicative of Kansas and the Flint Hills region. As we proceed further into winter, construction will continue on the parking structure.
