Think mobility, and the first thing that comes to mind are vehicles and their domain- roadways. However, other important mobility components in any community are pedestrian and bicycle pathways. Such pathways are becoming more and more important to families as an important amenity that enhances a community’s quality of life. At Ruggles & Bohm, the expertise of our engineering and landscape architecture staffs allow us to evaluate conceptual path routes and craft a route that is technically sound and an asset to the community. While a pathway may seem simply as a 10’ strip of pavement, it has impacts and details not unlike that of roadways. Issues like lighting, impact to drainage, vehicular conflicts, effects on right-of-way, and possible utility conflicts, among others, need to be addressed. As important as technical issues, though, is the user experience- what the path looks like and how it enhances the community. Our staff accomplishes this through the use of plant materials, earth forms, site amenities, sculptural elements and other tools appropriate for each project and client.
From route studies and visualizations to public meetings to final construction documents, we work closely with our clients to address their current needs, long-term maintenance capabilities, and community expectations to deliver enduring projects with lasting appeal.
> Unparalleled Experience
Since 2002, Ruggles & Bohm has designed over 12 miles of Bicycle and Pedestrian Paths in Wichita and surrounding cities, with 2.5 miles of additional pathway currently under design. We put our expertise to work by working with our clients and the public to develop preferred routes and uncovering potential challenges before beginning any field surveys. We understand the challenges to bike path routing and construction and utilize that knowledge to help our clients design and construct effective, economical and attractive paths.
